Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and Other Health Professions

Update on COVID-19 Impact Update #2

CAAM-HP continues to monitor the situation with the coronavirus pandemic. While our offices have reopened and our Annual General Meeting has been rescheduled, all other activities remain suspended until further notice.

We encourage medical schools here in the Caribbean, including students and graduates, to keep abreast of policy updates and changes of US regulatory authorities and examination bodies particularly as it relates to United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLE) and requirements for residency, postgraduate training and licensure. Among other things, with regard to ECFMG’s process for certification, there has been an update. Applicants must be students or graduates of a medical school that was appropriately accredited by an approved accrediting authority. The deadline for this policy to take effect was 2023; however, with the pandemic disrupting accreditation activities, the deadline has been moved to 2024.

We continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates.
